The Department of Engineering was established in 1907 to make maps, plans, surveys, specifications, and estimates relating to any work to be done, and to superintend the construction of all public works. Records of a similar nature, dated prior to the establishment of the department, are included among the "Correspondence and Records." Many of the latter items in "Correspondence and Records" pertain to the maintenance of vehicles and salary discussions.
