Scope and Content

This bound volume contains the information gathered by the committee appointed to appraise the property of the former School Districts of the City of Hartford. The three men on the committee were Assessor George Kinsella, chairman; Roger B. Ladd, Board of Education; and George Balf, first selectman. Their report was submitted to Mayor Thomas J. Spellacy and the Board of Aldermen. For each school district (Brown School, South School, Second North (Barnard), West Middle School, Arsenal School, Washington St. School, Southwest School, Northeast School, and Northwest School) there is a map of school plots, descriptions of land, pictures of schools and buildings, descriptions of properties, summaries of descriptions of schools, descriptions and lists of equipment, tables of valuations of school properties including land, building, and equipment, descriptions of land and buildings under other real estate, pictures of real estate other than schools, table valuations of other real estate, and summaries of district assets and liabilities.

The schools and properties included in the report are: Brown, Chauncey Harris, A.E. Burr, Dwight, Naylor, Lawrence St., New Park Ave., Kinsella, Henry Barnard, West Middle, Hartford College of Law, Noah Webster, Arsenal, Washington St., Wilson St., Hillsdale Ave., Southwest, Montrose St., Barbour, Camp, Brackett, Portable School (35 Greenwich Street), Northwest, Holcomb St., and Vine St.
