Scope and Content

DeBonee's collection contains over 7200 photographs, organized by size. They cover a range of people, buildings, and events in the city of Hartford. Photocopies of all the photographs are available for viewing in the Hartford History Center.

Biographical Note

Anthony "Tony" DeBonee was born in Hartford and lived in the area his entire life. He was a diamond-tool maker, cabinetmaker, a Royal Typewriter assembler, and railroad ticket agent as well as worked for Pratt and Whitney Aircraft for 36 years. Tony DeBonee was a noted Hartford historian. Through his 60 years of picture taking, he photographed the ever-changing landscape of Hartford. He was a weekly contributor to the Hartford News with his column "Once Upon A Time." He liked to use the Municipal Café (booth 1) on Main Street in Hartford for his photographic life, usually leaving from that point to walk the streets of Hartford and take pictures. He died April 21, 2001 at the age of 77.
