 Collection
Identifier: MS-Nagler

Scope and Content

Subjects include theatrical performances, sporting events, street festivals and other forms of entertainment as well as the physical infrastructure of downtown Hartford. Some slides depict the cityscape during different seasons, including spring and winter, and under different lighting conditions, including sunrise and sunset. A series of slides documents the construction of the new Hartford Stage Company building in 1977 and Hartford Stage Company productions from 1977 through 1982. Other slides show the Artists’ Collaborative, the CRT Craftery Gallery, and Connect the Dots. Others show performances at the Bushnell Memorial and the Meadows Music Theater. Another series documents a project of Christmas in April, a program providing assistance to senior citizens, disabled people and others who may not be able to afford needed repairs or renovations to their homes. Others depict events and parades in Hartford, including a Blue Hills Festival, a Park Street Festival, a Memorial Day parade, a Lady Huskies Parade and fireworks over the Connecticut River. Several slides document the 1992 fire at the Royal Typewriter building. A series of photographic prints documents the 1996 debate between Presidential candidates William J. Clinton and Robert J. Dole at the Bushnell. A small number of slides depict towns outside Hartford, primarily West Hartford and New Britain. The organization of the collection into broad categories reflects the photographer’s original arrangement. In some cases the date may be the date the photograph was printed, not the date when it was taken.
